Hello dear users,
- It's a pleasure to be here, and I'd like to guide you on some actions that should be avoided on your devices regarding system updates.
- Our goal is always to offer the best possible experience to our dear Xiaomi users.
Let's go:
- Many people wonder why a certain update hasn't arrived via OTA for their device and end up resorting to tricks and unofficial methods to update their devices.
- We recommend avoiding the following possible practices: Changing the device's region to prompt the update to appear, manually installing an update released with the Partial status through the "choose update package" option, trick to rename the file name, among others.
Now let's understand how the following updates work:
1- Mi Pilot Update: This update is related to the stable beta program where users join the beta program to receive Mi Pilot status updates, many already know how it works so there's not much secret here, if you're a beta tester, wait for the OTA to update.
2- Partial Update: This type of update occurs more frequently, and this is where many users wonder why they won't receive this type of update and get confused because many are beta testers and think they should have received such a Partial status update.
- Well, as there are various different regions in the global market, often these partial updates are only intended for specific regions.
- This type of update is not a public update, meaning you will never see this type of update as an available update for everyone or even on the official community portal to download, so many of you end up seeking alternative ways to download this update, but will receive an error message when trying to install "Cannot verify update, cannot install this ROM".
- And that's where our advice comes in, if you're a Mi Pilot tester, avoid forcing this type of update, because if it was intended for you, you would have received it OTA without any problem.
- Additionally, often these region-locked updates may contain additional market customizations and regulations that were designed only for that specific region.
- Changing the region to get this type of partial status update would not be the ideal practice, as it can cause compatibility issues and even hardware damage.
- Perhaps it may be necessary to visit an authorized service center for device repairs. That's not what we want, right!
3- Stable Update: After thorough testing and feedback is received, this update is finally released to the rest of the public thus completing 100% of its rollout.
- If you're a user who is not enrolled in any beta update program, be patient and wait for the OTA update, it takes some time for these updates to happen, on the other hand, you'll have more stability.
Note:
- I must inform you that users don't always succeed in manually installing an update found on the Community download portal, encountering the mentioned error above when trying to install.
- Unexpected events can occur and if there's still a problem with any update even in its stable status it can be reverted to avoid widespread issues by users.
- The region-locked version is possible in any of the three stages: Mi Pilot, Partial Update, and Stable Update.
- Mi Pilot: sent only to users who have beta permissions, if it's a region-locked version, this beta user will not receive the beta version.
- Partial Update: gradually release the number of updated users to avoid serious problems caused by many users updating to new versions all at once.
- And sometimes an update is released to users of a specific version and sometimes it can be released only to some users who reported the same bug and the update contains the patch for that bug.
Stay tuned for updates from the Mi Fan Home Channel, if you have any issues or questions, don't hesitate to ask, we from the Feedback Team will be happy to assist you.
Sincerely, the entire Feedback Team.
