Tomorrow will be an interesting day. Taiwan's Presidential Inauguration. The ceremony starts at 09:00 AM 20 May which makes it 7 PM Colorado Time today 19 May or 9 PM East Coast time today 19 May. Taiwan’s Lai Ching-te is set to be sworn in as president of the democratic island, putting him right at the heart of a geopolitical rivalry involving the world’s two biggest powers. The 64-year-old former kidney doctor and current vice president will take his oath in the Presidential Office in Taipei on Monday morning. His inaugural address afterward will be closely watched for signs of how he will navigate the complex relationship between America and China, which has called him an “instigator of war” and pledged to bring Taiwan under its control someday, by force if necessary. Pope Francis appointed the Holy See’s Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Charles John Brown to visit Taiwan from yesterday to tomorrow as a special envoy, the ministry said. The Pope asked the Archbishop to congratulate Lai and pray for prosperity of Taiwanese, it said.
Other European countries also sent delegations to Taiwan, including 39 guests from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, the European Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, the ministry said. The US has also sent a 3 party unofficial which includes two former senior officials and a scholar. Military Security has also ramped up ahead of the ceremony including increased patrols around the islands of Taiwan! Lets not forget the protests yesterday in Taiwan against the ruling party.
