Al-Aqra said, "I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them," Allah's Messenger (SAW) cast a look at him and said, "Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully." Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 5997 Lessons: 1. Being kind towards others is a trait which is enjoined upon every Muslim 2. One of the ways to have mercy and love children is to kiss them as the Prophet (SAW) kissed his grandson Saidina Hassan. 3. Love our family members fully. 4. HAVING IHSAN TOWARDS OTHER CREATIONS Shaddad bin Aws narrated: that the Prophet (SAW) said: "Indeed Allah has decreed Ihsan in everything. So when you kill, then do the killing well, and when you slaughter, then do the slaughtering well. Let one of you sharpen his blade, and let him comfort his animal (before slaughtering)." Reference: Hadith 17, Hadith Arbain Imam Nawawi Lessons: 1. It is obligatory for Muslims to do good to all of Allah’s creations 2. Having Ihsan is not confined to only other Muslims or even to non-Muslims, but towards all of Creation 3. Doing good towards animals include sharpening the knife before slaughtering the animal (i.e. to ensure as quick and as painless a death as possible) Let us always display Rahmah towards all of Allah’s creations. So Abu Hurairah said: "I said: 'I shall O Messenger of Allah!' So he (s.a.w) took my hand and enumerated five (things), he said: "Be on guard against the unlawful and you shall be the most worshiping among the people, be satisfied with what Allah has alloted for you and you shall be the richest of the people, be kind to your neighbor and you shall be a believer, love for the people what you love for yourself and you shall be a Muslim. And do not laugh too much, for indeed increased laughter kills the heart." Reference: Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2305 Lessons: 1. To be counted among those who worship, ensure that we do not commit that which is haram (forbidden). 2. To become rich, we need to be satisfied with what Allah has granted us. 3. Be kind towards your neighbours to be a mukmin (a believer). 4. Have as much love for other believers as you have love for yourself, and you will be a Muslim. 5. The Prophet (SAW) said, "I know a word the saying of which will cause him to relax if he does say it." Then a man went to him and informed him of the statement of the Prophet (SAW) and said, "Seek refuge with Allah from Satan." On that, the angry man said, 'Do you find anything wrong with me? Am I insane? Go away!" Grade: Sahih Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 6048 Lessons: 1. Anger is influenced by Satan. Imam al-Ghazali said that one feels anger because his nerves are “pulled” by Satan. 2. When a person is angry, he loses his rationality. If he does not control his anger, his actions can make it appear like he has lost his mind. 3. When angry, Rasulullah (SAW) teaches us to say: “أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم”, which means: “I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the Accursed”. Allah mentions: “And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” [Al-Fussilat, 41:36] 4. We must always seek Allah’s protection from the Syaitan that continually seeks to influence us to express our anger. A MUKMIN IS LIKE A DATE TREE The analogy of a Mukmin is like a date tree. You will gain benefit regardless of what you take (extract) from it. (HR Tabrani in al-Mu’jamul Kabir 12 (no. 1351)) Lessons: 1. A mukmin should take heed of the example of the date tree. All of its components are beneficial; its fruits are nutritious, its trunks are used for construction (in those days) and its leaves (fronds) are used for roofing. 2. An example of a mukmin’s patience and perseverance should be like the date tree in its sturdiness during strong winds. You will rarely find a fallen date tree when compared to other trees during strong winds, due to the tree having firm roots. This is a great comparison of how a mukmin should have strong iman (faith) rooted in his heart, to persevere during hard times. 3. Dates are also known to taste better when more ripe; thus a mukmins’ quality of amal (good deeds) should also improve as he ages. 4. The dates two forms are also full of benefits; a ruthab (juicy date) is widely eaten as a plain fruit or mixed into sweets, and a tamr (dry date) is also consumed as a plain fruit or in sweets, but has also been used for making traditional remedies. Thus a mukmin should also be full of benefits in all his forms. To subscribe to A Hadith A Day (AHAD), click on the Telegram channel link below: Prefer your ahadith in Malay? Join our sister channel:

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection. " Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 2442 Lesson: 1. A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. 2. Muslims are obligated to protect the rights of other Muslims, e.g.: a. By not inflicting tyranny or mistreating other Muslims b. By not allowing other Muslims to be subjected to tyrannical treatment 3. It is our responsibility to help our kin who are in need of assistance. Those who do will in turn be assisted by Allah. 4. Allah will relieve the hardship of the Day of Resurrection and make it easy for those Muslims who relieved the hardship of other Muslims. 5. It is the responsibility of a Muslim to conceal the shame or disgrace of another Muslim. 6. Allah will surely conceal one’s weakness, shame, or disgrace on the Day of Resurrection if they concealed another Muslim’s weakness, shame, or disgrace in this world. Doing Good Deeds to Neighbours Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (SAW) said "Gabriel continued to recommend me about treating the neighbours kindly and politely so much so that I thought he would order me to make them as my heirs. Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 6014 Lesson: 1. Muslims are commanded to do good to their neighbours. Narrated by Abu Hurairah r.a: The Prophet (SAW) said, “He will not enter Paradise whose neighbour is not secure from his wrongful conduct.” (Sahih Muslim 46) (Hadith translation obtained from ) 2. There are many ways of doing good to neighbours, such as not hurting them (through careless words or actions), always offering them help and assistance, congratulating them upon hearing good news, and giving them words of condolence to offer sympathy for a loss or an unfortunate event. 3. Neighbours are our closest “relatives”. They are regarded as a part of our family. 4. One of the signs of contentment in life is through presence of good neigbours. One hadith is narrated as below: Narrated by Sa’ad Abi Waqas: “Four things are part of happiness: a righteous spouse, a spacious dwelling, a righteous neighbour, and a comfortable mount. Four things are part of misery: a bad neighbour, a bad spouse, a restrictive dwelling, and a bad mount” (Sahih Ibn Hibban 4122) (Hadith translation obtained from ) Let’s please our neighbours and do good to them. It is obligatory upon a wife to preserve her husband’s property. 2. Any charity carried out by a wife using her husband’s wealth (for instance preparing food for guests), both will be rewarded on the condition that the husband’s wealth is not spoiled. 3. One should begin by giving to his dependents. And the best charity is that, which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left over after his expenses). And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will provide for him and save him from asking others; Allah will make him self-sufficient.’ Grade: Saheeh (authentic) - Imam al-Bukhari Lessons: 1. To give is better than to beg and receive from others. 2. Spending in charity should be directed towards one’s closest family members first. 3. The best charity is that which is given out after one’s basic needs are fulfilled. 4. One should make effort to provide for himself and refrain from scrounging. 5. Then the Prophet (pbuh) came in and I informed him about this story. He said, "Whoever is put to trial by these daughters and he treats them generously (with benevolence) then these daughters will act as a shield for him from Hell-Fire." [Sahih al-Bukhari 1418] Reference: Lessons: 1. It is the responsibility of parents to cater to their children’s needs, including providing meals 2. A caring parent will prioritise his children’s needs over their own, even if it means not having enough to feed himself 3. Keeping one’s own child from hunger will be counted as a good deed that will protect one from the Hellfire Let’s engage in good deeds that will salvage us in the Hereafter! THE LOSS OF TRUSTWORTHINESS AND THE DAY OF JUDGMENT Narrated Abu Huraira: While the Prophet (pbuh) was saying something in a gathering, a Bedouin came and asked him, "When will the Hour (Doomsday) take place?" Allah's Messenger (pbuh) continued his talk, so some people said that Allah's Messenger (pbuh) had heard the question, but did not like what that Bedouin had asked. Some of them said that Allah's Messenger (pbuh) had not heard it. When the Prophet (pbuh) finished his speech, he said, "Where is the questioner, who inquired about the Hour (Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said, "I am here, O Allah's Apostle." Then the Prophet (pbuh) said, "When trustworthiness is lost, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin said, "How will that be lost?" The Prophet (pbuh) said, "When power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday.)" Grade: sahih (authentic) – Imam al-Bukhari Lessons: 1. Doomsday (Yaum al-Qiyamah) is the end of this world 2. One of the signs of Doomsday is when trustworthiness is lost 3. Trustworthiness is a value in faith. When one has lost his honesty, is drawn to worldly goodness, and involves himself in sins and evils, the value of faith will fade 4. Trustworthiness is lost when administration and the power of authority are put in the hands of those unqualified 5. According to Al-Munawi, the day of the Hereafter is close when the work of amar maaruf (enjoining good) and nahi munkar (prohibiting evil) is in the hands of those who are dishonest, fragile, and weak in their religious practices, thus causing ignorance to be widespread Let’s be honest as a sign of imaan! MODESTY AND GUARDING ONE’S AURAH (INTIMATE PARTS) EVEN WHEN ALONE Bahz b. Hakim said that his father told on the authority of his grandfather: I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, from whom should we conceal our private parts and to whom can we show?’ He replied, ‘Conceal your private parts except from your wife and from whom your right hands possess (slave-girls).’ I then asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, (what should we do), if the people are assembled together?’ He replied, ‘If it is within your power that no one looks at it, then no one should look at it.’ I then asked, ‘Messenger of Allah if one of us is alone, (what should he do)?’ He replied, ‘Allah is more entitled than people that bashfulness should be shown to him.’ Grade: Hasan (Al-Albani) Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud 4017 Lessons: 1. Muslims must always guard their aurah except in front of their spouses. 2. Even when alone, it is encouraged for one to cover one’s aurah out of shyness towards Allah. Let us guard our modesty! Salman narrated: The Prophet (pbuh) said, ‘Your Lord is munificent and generous, and is ashamed to turn away empty the hands of His servant when he raises them to Him.’ Grade: Sahih (Al-Albani) Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud 1488 () Lessons: 1. All Muslims are required to always ask of Allah and pray to Him, whatever the circumstances. 2. Allah always answers each prayer and supplication of His slaves. 3. Allah will not disappoint the requests and supplications of His slaves. Allah says in the Quran: وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ ‘And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.’ [Ghafir (40):60] Let us always remember to pray to Allah. Never let ourselves fall into arrogance by not wanting to supplicate to Him! To subscribe to A Hadith A Day (AHAD), click on the Telegram channel link below: Prefer your ahadith in Malay?
