🔆Heatwave
✅Heatwave severity is classified by temperature departure from normal, with a 'normal heatwave' at 4.5-6.4°C above normal, and a 'severe heatwave' when the departure is greater.
✅Heat Action Plans (HAPs) have been prepared by governments at various levels to mitigate and manage heatwave impacts. They include public education, early warning systems, healthcare readiness, and infrastructure improvements like heat-resistant building materials and urban planning strategies.
✅HAPs face challenges in addressing heatwaves effectively due to the variability of weather conditions, socioeconomic disparities, and the lack of targeted interventions for vulnerable communities.
✅Improving HAPs requires development of a heat index considering multiple factors beyond temperature, consistent climate risk assessments, targeted interventions for vulnerable communities, dedicated budgets, and integration with broader urban resilience and climate adaptation plans.
