How to build habits? (Like meditation etc etc)

Habit stacking (learned from book- atomic habits)
My experience with trying to form habit of meditation has been a mixed experience up until last week. But since last week it became
regular, easy and requires no motivation even on world falling apart days. Before this i have had
streaks of doing it and then missing it. Basically it needed a
lot of willpower and motivation and that drains us of energy. When things come to us easily without needing willpower that's when a habit is formed.
So i read about habit stacking in this book recommended by a friend. Basically it requires us to find
one habit we do everyday and
writing down one habit you want to do everyday and clubbing them. For me a habit i did everyday was
drinking black coffee (everyday for years). So all I had to do was to make sure that everytime I poured boiling black coffee, i meditate for 5 mins till it cools down. For 2-3 days I had to be concious of it, but now it has become a
reflexive habit for me to pour coffee, put on a timer, meditate and then enjoy coffee.
Requires no willpower, no motivation. That's when i realised habits are so much better than relying on motivation.
It was sadly too late for me to learn in UPSC journey, but life is always at the moment you begin. I hope you begin today.
(The book has many such practical techniques to build and break habits, just shared a part of it)
