The craziest thing just happened ... I have a pole barn with about 50 1x4 boards laying against the inside wall from a fence I took down when I bought this property ... Sweetie and Petey were going nuts for about an hour this morning trying to move them and barking like crazy. I figured maybe a mouse or a lizard was underneath them. As I walked over close to see if I could find what they were barking at, Sweetie moved a board with her foot and reached down and grabbed a huge cottonmouth water moccasin and shook it so hard it snapped in half - the part with the head hit me on the shoulder and they both thankfully ran after the tail section. Even bitten in half, the snake was biting at me. I had a shovel nearby and scooped it up and threw it over the fence. Have no idea what a 3ft long water moccasin was doing so far away from water. Thankfully they weren't bit or me. I examined them both really well and couldn't find any bites or swelling on them. I'll keep a close eye on them for the next few hours just in case. Country living - it's always something wild every day lol. @catturd2
