A WHO group co-chaired by Dr Ashley Bloomfield is working on amendments to International Health Regulations that give more powers to global health bureaucrats to help fight pandemics. The amendments will mean more uniform health policies that may undermine national sovereignty and autonomy and be inappropriate in certain local contexts. The WHO's push for these regulations is part of an ongoing drive towards centralising health bureaucracy, which some view as a power grab wrapped in public health concern. When you consider the global controversy that surrounded the COVID-19 response, including the authoritarian measures that were put in place, you have to wonder whether giving greater power to distant and unaccountable global health bureaucrats is really warranted. In 2023 the White House officially declared 31st March as ‘Transgender Day of Visibility’, signed by (Catholic) President Joseph R Biden Jr. It just so happens to fall on Easter Sunday this year, causing widespread outrage and being seen as an affront to millions of Christians and Catholics worldwide. This comes after the White House banned religious egg designs in its Easter Art Event this year. The art contest is part of the White House’s Easter tradition, which include the annual Easter egg roll. The Digital ID Bill 2023 has passed the Australian Senate with 33 members voting yes and 26 against. This will mean private businesses will now be able to apply to join the Australian government’s digital ID system within two years of royal assent.
