According to a report from the nonprofit news outlet Crosstown L.A., the San Fernando Valley is seeing historic levels of auto thefts this year. WOW, amazing work officers! Long Beach, CA: Last night, officers responded to a stolen vehicle report where the calling party said she had found her car but she could see four occupants inside the vehicle. As officers were responding, the car fled the area. Our LBPD helicopter was used to track the vehicle's location and provide information to officers on the ground. The stolen vehicle sped onto the 710 Freeway and ultimately collided with a semi-truck, trapping four juveniles inside. As officers arrived on scene, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. UPDATE: An off-duty sergeant shot and killed a shoplifting suspect in Pineville on Tuesday, police said. Police said they were called to the scene because someone was shoplifting from the store. An off-duty sergeant who was working at the store in uniform nearby caught up with the suspect. Capt. Corey Copley said the suspect resisted the officer, and the confrontation turned into a physical fight. That led to the two running across the street to an apartment complex off Johnston Road. Copley said there, anther fight ensued in the parking lot. Shots were fired and one person died as a result. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is handing the homicide investigation.
