She has some wonderful insight to share Lauren Ehlert shares the following: 🌻 There were a lot of misconceptions about homeschooling at the previous hearings. These should be addressed at the remaining hearings. The 2 main misconceptions and accusations made against homeschooling is that it pushes a 1) racist agenda and 2) is discrimination. These lies need to be addressed because homeschooling has NOTHING to do with these. Each hearing seems to get more and more intense and some people are using apartheid to distract from the real problems in Education. Homeschooling is so precious- we need to rectify these lies. My suggestions: 1) Address the lie of racism: 🌺Homeschooling needs to be represented by different cultures, especially African. The majority of the faces representing it were white which is maybe why the public at the hearing think or can say it is a white thing. Homeschooling needs to be defended by more cultures. It will be better if there are more African faces than white respresting Home Education at the remaining hearings so that they can see that this is not a "white" or racist agenda. 🌺 It should be stated how Home Educated children play and learn with children from different cultures and that they have friends from different cultures and that we do not teach our children to be racist. Alot of us meet willingly (inter-racially) at each other's homes for co-ops, play dates etc. and this should be mentioned. 🌺The apartheid government did not allow Home Education. It was only brought in by the current government under Nelson Mandela (please correct me if I am wrong) 2) Discrimination: 🌸 It should be stated that Home Education should be for ANY dedicated parent who chooses to Home Educate. There is no discrimination here. Colour of skin, language or even economics do not determine whether a parent can Home Educate or not. 🌸 It is also not a matter of finances- A lot of parents choose to Home Educate because they can't afford good schools and the fees that go with it (uniforms etc). One does not need to have a lot of money to Home Educate- one can make use if nature, recyclable materials, Libraries etc (Safe and good public Libraries should be built by the municipalities in areas that do not have. Both Home Educated and school going children should have access to good and safe Public libraries). Make use of expertise in the environment, especially from the elderly (it gives them purpose too). There are single moms are juggling work and Home Educating and who are doing a fantastic job. Many parents make big sacrifices to Home Educate. Home Education doesn't discriminate against anyone, but taking this option away WILL discriminate against those who can't afford good schools. 3) People also said that they should interact with different learners, different cultures, learn about the environment and interact with the community and learn about other people's norms and values. 🌻The socialization myth should be busted. It should be stated how Home Educated children do all of the above and often have more opportunities for the above than schooled children.

Home Educated children interact with different ages from babies to the elderly, from different walks of life and different cultures regularly. Schooled children mostly interact with their classmates who are the same age as them. 🌻 Many are very involved in the community, with various community service projects such as helping out at animal shelters, orphanages, churches and other charities and many are learning to serve their community. 🌻Last year, in Pretoria, we had an event where Home Educated children made products out of recyclable items to sell to raise money for rhinos. They also said speeches and used the performing arts to raise awareness about endangered animals and the problems of pollution. These kind of projects should be mentioned so that they can see that many Home Educated children are actually making a difference in their communities and in the environment, not just learning about these issues and writing tests about them. Stage 8 load-shedding hits as South Africa runs out of time Whether Eskom wants to admit it or not, South Africa hit stage 8 load shedding this week, energy experts say – while the government continues to dither on its energy policy, putting billions of dollars in investment at risk. As the country was thrust into all-day stage 6 load shedding this week, data published on Friday revealed that Eskom had actually cut over 7,000MW of power from the grid on Thursday. By Eskom’s own definitions, this is equal to 8 stages of load shedding. The group explained the figure away by noting that the figure was around 5,700MW cut from the national grid (stage 6 load shedding) plus a further 1,400MW from its contracted customers (stage 4 load curtailment). However, this reporting structure has also never been used before, indicating that something was off. It is also not the first time this has happened. Over 7,000MW of load was cut for two days back in February. At the time, Eskom admitted that it had dipped into stage 7 load shedding. It explained that supply and demand was not consistent for a full day and that, at times, the utility could briefly move beyond the scheduled stage of load shedding, or even below it. This week, the utility said that the load was “reduced” beyond 6,000MW, but the load that was “shed” was still under 6,000MW. Speaking to the Sunday Times, energy expert Lungile Mashele said that, simply put, it was stage 8 load shedding, warning – like so many other analysts and experts – that the coming winter months are likely to be worse. Out of time With winter knocking on the door, South Africa is now out of time to resolve its energy crisis. According to public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan, Eskom is unable to reliably produce 23,000MW of energy. Meanwhile, essential units remain offline, removing over 3,000MW of power from the grid. Winter demand is expected to go as high as 37,000MW, and despite the government’s best efforts and big plans, the soonest the country will see any capacity return to the gris is when Koeberg unit 1 returns to service in August. This harsh reality is also finally setting in for the planners and spin doctors, as it is now clear that the path out of the energy crisis is not as simple as building new capacity within specified timelines. These public hearings are the last opportunities we will have to impact the decision of the PCBE (Portfolio Committee on Basic Education) on the BELA Bill. Please seriously consider taking part one way or the other. This phase cannot be left to our homeschool advocacy and representative organizations, as *here it is participation of each individual member of the public that counts*. Each one of you, individually, need to participate. Remember, if you do not object, and the Bill becomes law, you do not have the right to complain! There are mainly four ways in which you can participate: 1. _Speak at the public hearings._ Each speaker will receive three minutes maximum to speak. No electronic presentation facilities (e.g. a projector) are available. We need a diverse group to present - parents, single parents, parents of special needs learners, cottage school owners, learners, self-directed learners, homeschool alumni, homeschoolers from a variety of cultures and religions. 2. _Attend the public hearings to cheer!_ If you cannot or do not wish to speak, please attend the hearings to support the speakers and clap loudly after homeschool submissions. It seems to make an impression at the hearings if a particular submission is received with enthusiasm by the audience. Bring your spouse, children, grandparents, neighbors, friends, and your cousin twice removed to do the same. Millions of Avoidable Deaths from COVID-19 by Max Langen In the recent pandemic, a common reason many people died is the failure to use widely available, highly effective, safe, and inexpensive treatments that have proven to drastically reduce morbidity and mortality from this disease. Over the last several centuries and especially within the last decades, we have gained a huge amount of medical knowledge about biochemistry and nutrition -- and how important this is for maintaining a strong, resilient body and immune system. For example, cardiologist Dr. Thomas Levy *wrote entire books that describe how extremely high dose vitamin C can treat or cure a wide spectrum of infectious diseases.* He cites more than 1,000 studies and reports from doctors and scientists who published lifesaving results from the use of nutrition supplements. Too many people know nothing about these results. The problem is that those in the medical establishment who have the most power have interests other than health and welfare. They are interested in money and profits. Additional problems that may be responsible for the fact that millions of people have died unnecessarily from the pandemic include: ideologies, ignorance, a desire of control, unknowingness due to failure or unwillingness to consult other medical experts such as orthomolecular practitioners. During the COVID-19-pandemic, those patients who got very sick from the viral illness and were thus hospitalized on average had a 13% (95% confidence interval: 9 to 17%) fatality rate. However, a valuable successful early treatment protocol with synergistic combinations of cheap repurposed drugs and vitamins like the one from Dr. Fareed and Dr. Tyson (from California) proved to be safe in keeping almost all patients from being hospitalized. [3] Yet their protocol has been ignored, even though a study had confirmed that the thousands of patients who were treated early by those doctors had a 99.8% lower risk of death from COVID-19 than a control group comprising other patients from the same county. They were ignored even after they informed the governments and health agencies about their excellent success rate. In addition to early treatment, they have also developed late treatment protocols. Those protocols have drastically reduced the risk of death of patients who were hospitalized (due to the failure to administer early treatment). For example, in a blind random-controlled trial (RCT) that included 80 hospitalized COVID-patients, those who received, in addition to the standard treatment, a protocol consisting of vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, selenium, magnesium, omega-3, l-arginine, l-glutamine, resveratrol, spirulina maxima, vegetable protein, folic acid, an intramuscular B-complex including: B1, B6 and B12 and probiotics (Saccharomyces boulardii) had a 57% lower risk of requiring mechanical ventilation and a 86% lower risk of death, compared with the patients who only received the standard treatment. [4] The control group had a mortality rate of 17.5%, consistent with the global C-19 hospital fatality rate, while the intervention group that received micronutrients, polyphenols, algae and probiotics had a mortality rate of only 2.5%. Very likely, if the doses of vitamin C and vitamin D had been higher (and had vitamin D been given as calcifediol [5]), the mortality rate might have been even lower. Interestingly, a follow-up of all patients who survived found that those in the intervention group also had a 37% lower risk of Post-COVID-Syndrome than those who did not receive the nutritional support system.
