This bill is a two-part bill The first part: it would allow children on medi-cal services, to receive the same services as a patient on private pay insurance, which we are in supportive of. The second part: as you can see on the graphic medically emancipate a child at 12 years old, giving them the power of informed consent to be transferred into the foster care system into a shelter with no due process, and no proof of abuse. A mental health counselor could facilitate the minors move without parental knowledge or access. We are asking you to contact the senate judiciary committee (next slide) and ask they keep the guard rails that’s placed on the current law.

#AB665 is waiting to be heard in senate judiciary committee. This bill is a two-part bill (1) would allow children on medi-cal to receive the same service that a patient with private insurance would have access to. *We support all children getting the healthcare access they need, regardless of insurance providers. (2) this bill removes the guard rails that there must be evidence of abuse before a child gets removed from their home and placed into a shelter. As we spoke with legislators today, some expressed their concerns that the supporters of the bill are not providing full information & omitting the language that forces medical emancipation & legislators are also concerned that the first step of action would be to remove a child instead of creating resources for families. We have an opportunity to amend this bill now that the community is aware of the deceiving language. Contact these legislators and ask them to amend out the language that removes the guardrails & to support families in need.
