French media is abuzz as a major soccer (football) star has sued Pfizer and BioNTech, makers of the BNT162b2 (Comirnaty) mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine. The story originated via France Bleu, the network of local and regional radio stations that are part of the public broadcasting group Radio France. Not a sensationalistic media, this network apparently carries a public service mission tailored to local and regional audiences across France. Stade Lavallois Mayenne Football Club player François-Xavier Fumu Tamuzo, a striker for Ligue 2 club Laval, was forced to end his professional football career early resigning this mid-April. Originally from Auxerre, a two-hour drive southeast of Paris, François-Xavier Fumu Tamuzo seeks to establish a link between his injuries and the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.

Physician-scientist Eun Mi Chun at Ewha Womans University in Seoul Korea, and a group of colleagues sought to investigate the autoimmune AEs after COVID-19 vaccination from a population-based cohort in South Korea. Thereafter, the team generated cumulative incidence, hazard ratios (HRs) assessing 95% confidence intervals of autoimmune adverse events post COVID-19 vaccination. How durable was the original monovalent mRNA vaccine when measured against prevention of COVID-19 Omicron-associated hospitalization involving children and adolescents? The Overcoming COVID-19 investigator network recently reported on this data between 2020 and 2023. The results are challenging, evidencing rapidly waning vaccine effectiveness (VE) based on the known confluence of factors from mutating viral pathogens to the possibility of immunological imprinting (antigenic sin), and frankly, vaccines not engineered for breadth or durability results. How severe is the waning VE? It is significant. For example, when measuring against hospitalization, VE should be substantially high, as the threshold is different for this class of product than preventing transmission. When the hospitalization incidence occurs a mere four months or more after the hospitalization event the VE rate equals 19% and ranges from as low as 2% to up to 32%. In people who have already contracted COVID-19 and now suffer from long-COVID, receiving a COVID vaccination has a significant association with prolonged symptoms of long-COVID for more than one year after the initial infection. Objective The current study aimed to identify the association between COVID-19 vaccination and prolonged post-COVID symptoms (long-COVID) in adults who reported suffering from this condition. Methods This was a retrospective follow-up study of adults with long-COVID syndrome. The data were collected during a phone call to the participants in January-February 2022. We inquired about their current health status and also their vaccination status if they agreed to participate. Results In total, 1236 people were studied; 543 individuals reported suffering from long long- COVID (43.9%). Chi square test showed that 15 out of 51 people (29.4%) with no vaccination and 528 out of 1185 participants (44.6%) who received at least one dose of any vaccine had long long- COVID symptoms (p = 0.032).
