US Military Completes Installation of Gaza Pier, Says Aid To Start Flowing Within Days The US military has finished installing a floating pier for the Gaza Strip, the US Central Command says, with officials poised to begin ferrying humanitarian aid into the enclave via the sea. US troops anchored the pier at 7:40 a.m. local time, CENTCOM says in a statement, stressing that none of its forces entered the Gaza Strip. “Trucks carrying humanitarian assistance are expected to begin moving ashore in the coming days,” the statement says. “The United Nations will receive the aid and coordinate its distribution into Gaza.” It isn’t immediately clear which UN agency will be involved. Israeli forces will be in charge of security on the shore, but there are also two US Navy warships near the area in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the USS Arleigh Burke and the USS Paul Ignatius. America's 'Bunker-Buster' Bomb Production to Triple as World Fractures Into Dangerous Multi-Polar State Munitions stockpiles are running low across the West, whether in Europe or the United States. Supplying Ukraine with arms in its war against Russia has forced Western militaries and defense firms to either make plans or begin boosting the production of bombs, missiles, artillery shells, and suicide drones. On Tuesday (May 14), the US Air Force announced a tripling in its monthly production of the giant 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator, known as the "bunker-buster." It's the largest non-nuclear bomb the US has in its stockpiles and can only be deployed by a Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. Bloomberg was among the first to report an increase in bunker-buster bomb production, citing a USAF statement: "Will significantly increase production as needed." Officials at the facility told Bloomberg journos during a March tour by General Charles Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, that new bunker-buster bomb production could rise from currently two, to as many as six or possibly eight bombs per month. Ukraine isn't the only conflict area draining Western supplies of munitions. The US has been supplying Israel with bombs and missiles as the conflict with Hamas rages on. Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials have justified the decision by pointing to Ukraine’s constitution, which prohibits elections during martial law. Martial law was first declared when Russia invaded and has been extended since. However, at one point, Zelensky made it clear that he could hold a vote if he wanted to. Last year, Zelensky said that he could hold elections if the US and other Western countries paid for them and if Ukrainian legislators agreed to amend the constitution. He later ruled out the idea and there’s been no pressure from Ukraine’s Western backers to hold a vote despite the claims that the proxy war is a fight for democracy. Israeli Tanks Plunge Deeper Into Rafah As 500,000 Palestinians Flee Israeli tanks have been seen plunging deeper into the southern Gaza city of Rafah amid reports that some 500,000 people have fled amid the escalating ground offensive. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have initially focused their operation on the eastern section of the city, having seized a key roadway that essentially cuts Rafah in half. "The tanks advanced this morning west of Salahuddin Road into the Brzail and Jneina neighborhoods. They are in the streets inside the built-up area and there are clashes," one resident told Reuters via a messaging app. Regional media also reports that "Video on social media showed one tank on George Street in Al-Jneina neighborhood." The Guardian also writes Tuesday (May 14) that "Officials estimate that as many as 500,000 people have fled Rafah since being told to evacuate by the Israel Defense Forces before their first attacks around and in the city a week ago."
